To go along with my earlier post about dangerous roads, here's one I just learned about that's in Spain, known as 'The King's Pathway.' It's a footpath that was built in 1901 (completed in 1905) that was used for the transport of goods for workers. It has fallen into disrepair, and after 4 deaths around 2000, the government closed the main access points. People can still get onto the path by using abandoned tunnels, and the local government budgeted 7 million dollars in 2006 to begin a restoration. Until then, it remains one of the most dangerous walkways in the world. More info here. There's also a must-see video of a guy walking along the path that gives you the feeling of being right there.
