As far as my OMSP ride went, I got all the way on the other side of the park (other side from my car) when my chain popped off. It's not an old chain, either, so I'm not sure what happened. It was already getting dark, so I found the road & stuck my thumb out. Some guys in a pickup gave me a ride back to my car, thank goodness, b/c it would have been a really long walk in the dark. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix my chain as I'm learning how to do maintenance on my own.

Mom's Bike
The other day, I went down to Alabaster to pick up some chairs I found on Craig's List. I figured I could go riding at Oak Mtn aftewards, since it's right next door. When I got down there, I stopped of at Cahaba's Cycles to look around. I found a bike for $50 that was an old Schwinn. I so want to get my mom into cycling, so I ended up buying it for her. It has so much potential!! I'm going to fix it up and then hopefully we can go out for some rides. I'm hoping to paint it after I get some of the rust off. Here it is pre-fixed up:

You're going to have to get one of those little bells for the bars and maybe even some streamers for the grips. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!! hahaha
ReplyDeleteLeave the color as is. That is a cool color.
ReplyDeleteBurnt orange?!
ReplyDeleteNice! I'm guessing this is how/why you found my Old Bike Blog. Thanks for signing on to follow. Streamers, maybe, but bell definitely, especially if your mom is going to do any riding for transportation. You wouldn't send her out in a car without a horn, would you? I would also make the case for not painting it. This is a classic color--I believe it's copper, like my wife's Schwinn Suburban, not burnt orange, and I think you'll find that it cleans up very nicely. Indeed, it looks like it's in fine shape, and sanding and repainting a bike is a royal pain. Best of luck with the cleaning and refurbishing!
